Rachel Lindsay Breaks Silence on Bryan Abasolo Divorce, Slams Narrative She Chose Her Career Over Marriage and Children

Rachel Lindsay has a lot to say after her divorce from Bryan Abasolo.

The couple, who met on Bachelor in 2017, they finalized their divorce on January 7. Three days later, Lindsay, 39, broke her silence about the year-long process on her podcast, Higher education.

“I’m divorced, thank you God,” she said after a pause as she admitted she was “trying to think about how to say” what she wanted to say.

“It’s a very strange feeling because from the moment he finally left the house after being here for 7 months, after the separation, I felt divorced, but for me, I’ll be honest, it’s… there many I mean,” Lindsay began.

The former lawyer said she has “let a lot of people talk without me saying anything” since Abasolo, 44, filed for divorce on Jan. 2, 2024, and as a result, “there have been a lot of things that are not true.” which circulated.

“There are so many things I want to address. But this is all I’m going to say right now. There comes a point in divorce when you don’t just have to be the bigger person. When someone… When someone fights and fights you like this and ready is to die on every hill and is not willing to compromise at all, for whatever reason he has – and I’ll get to that later – you have to, at some point, let go, and just be the bigger person and prioritize what’s most important to you,” she said. “Is it most important to be vengeful? Is it most important to be vengeful? Is it most important to be full of hate? Is it most important to just be — just stick with it? Or is it most important to just protect my peace of mind and release? Which to me is priceless.”

Lindsay said she’s “trying to move on” and in part that means she’s “had to make concessions that I didn’t necessarily want to make…to say that my peace of mind is priceless at the end of the day.”

“And I really want to start rebuilding and I want to move forward, and now I can do that. And it’s a really, really good feeling, to be able to start the process of, like, okay, let’s rebuild. And there’s no price for that. ”

While she continued to be “careful” about what she says, the former reality star admitted that what bothered her “the most” was what her ex said about their relationship, “that he played on certain stereotypes that really offended me or bothered me. . saying things that specifically play into the stereotype of me as an angry black woman.”

Rachel Lindsay says she noticed red flags with Bryan Abasola ‘before marriage’ but was ’embarrassed’

“There are certain things that have been said to support the stereotype of me as a career woman, that have been done on purpose to win over the media. And it’s been really hard to see people running with that story,” she said.

“Couldn’t be more fake,” Lindsay said [her] career above marriage” or “over the desire to have children”, she asserted.

“Those things are extremely untrue. And to see people run with it because it’s low-hanging fruit and fits a certain stereotype, [was] really painful, and I can’t wait to talk about these things fully.”

Rachel Lindsay says she was ‘quiet’ and ‘scared’ after Bryan Abasolo proposed to her Bachelor: ‘Wacky’

Looking to the future, Lindsay said she “wouldn’t get married again without a prenup” — but she’s not sure marriage is even in the cards for her

“It, like, changed my whole perspective on everything. I don’t even know if I would ever get married again. I can’t even fathom it,” she admitted.

The divorce itself — Lindsay was ordered to pay Abasol $500,000, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE — also “changed my schedule because, financially, things are so different for me now,” she said.

“It’s like, things that I wanted to do, I want to be able to do, I really can’t. And I think you know what I’m referring to when it comes to that, so it’s also really disheartening, even though I supposedly didn’t want those things.” , she continued, potentially alluding to the story that she doesn’t want to have children.

Lindsay also said she “didn’t mince words” when talking about how long divorces can take compared to a previous episode of the podcast, as she said she didn’t know for a long time if Abasolo would “accept” the terms she wanted to offer.

“There was an agreement in September, but obviously it took until this point. Things were still happening,” she said. “So I’m happy to give it up and move forward.”
