Rachel McAdams Makes Surprise Saturday Night Live Cameo Introducing Reneé Rapp as Musical Guest

Reneé Rapp had a surprise guest who introduced her Saturday night live performance — original Mean girlsRegina George!

Rachel McAdams, who played the role in the 2004 hit film, made an unexpected cameo in the series to introduce Rapp, 24, who plays Regina George in this year’s musical remake of the cult film.

Appearing on stage in a red pantsuit and purple turtleneck sweater, McAdams, 45, — who starred in the original film alongside Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert — clasped her hands and smiled as the rapturous audience cheered her surprise presence at SNL the stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen, once again, Renee Rapp!” she said before gesturing towards Rapp, who then began his performance of “Not My Fault” with Megan Thee Stallion, who joined her on stage for the song in another exciting surprise cameo.

Rapp impressed with her vocals as the musical guest in this week’s episode SNLwith host Jacob Elordi, who performed both “Not My Fault” and her song “Snow Angel,” introduced by Elordi.

Meanwhile, McAdams also appeared in a skit in which she played actress Natalie Partman who started OnlyFans and was sued by the real Rachel McAdams, asking Elorda, 26, for career advice for “someone who looks like a famous person.”

Ahead of the show, a promotional video on Thursday teased the singer’s look. During the fun clip, which featured Elordi and cast member Bowen Yang, Rapp called Priscilla actor “so babygirl.”

“I’m a girl? So what is Reneé?” Elordi then asked.

“Me?” Rapp replied with a smile. “Oh, I’m a mother.”

On Dec. 16, the sketch comedy show announced that Elordi, 26, and the “Poison Poison” singer, will make their debuts as host and musical guest. Rapp reposted the graphic on Instagram with the caption, “yeah you gotta be kidding me.”

Stars like Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose and the Rapps Mean girls mom Busy Philipps showed her enthusiasm and support in the comments.

Saturday’s surprise unveiling comes after Rapp praised her character, originally played by McAdams in the 2004 film, in an exclusive chat with PEOPLE earlier this month.

Rapp had a busy start to the year after a busy 2023.

Last year began with her filming a movie musical based on Tina Fey’s script Mean girls. At the same time, she recorded her debut studio album Angel in the snow, which was released in August. The album is accompanied Snow Hard Feelings Tourwhich started in September and continues in 2024.
