Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi is an Indian cricketer who plays for Indian domestic cricket, Indian Premier League and the Indian national team. He is considered one of India’s best batsmen and one of the fittest cricketers.

Rahul Tripathi was born on Saturday, March 2, 1991, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India (32 years old; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Pisces. He started playing cricket with a plastic bat when he was 9 months old. According to his father, they gave Rahul various toys; however, he always chose bat and ball to play with. One of Rahul’s father’s seniors observed Rahul’s passion for cricket and suggested his father to make Rahul a cricketer. In his school, he often used a pencil as a wicket, a scale as a bat, and an eraser as a ball. He studied in different Army Public Schools in Ranchi, Gangtok, Lucknow, Kashmir and Pune as his father was frequently transferred in different cities during his Army career. He received his BA (Hons) in Mathematics from Sir Parasurambhau Mahavidylay (also known as SP College), Pune, Maharashtra. After training in Lucknow during his childhood, he did not play cricket for about three years when his father was posted to Kashmir. After moving to Pune from Srinagar, his father enrolled him for cricket training at Deccan Gymkhana in Pune on September 20, 2003.

In 2003, after Rahul’s father moved to Pune, he learned about the Maharashtra Under-14 national team selection trials at the Nehru Stadium. He had an exam that day. He completed the exam 30 minutes earlier than the allotted time and arrived at the exam location. His father requested the selectors to let him bat, after which they allowed Rahul to bowl two balls. After seeing him bowl, they allowed him to bowl two more balls and then two more and then they told Rahul to wait until the evening. In the evening, Rahul again hit a few more balls and advanced to the top 80 out of 2,000 players. Subsequently, he underwent another 3 days of selection and was selected among the top 44 players. Finally, he was selected among the top 5 players in Pune. He made his debut for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Baroda in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on February 16, 2010, but was eliminated. He made his debut in the Ranji Trophy on December 22, 2012, representing Maharashtra against Baroda in Pune and scored 24 points. He made his debut for Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Saurashtra in Ahmedabad on 18 March 2013 and scored 2 points . In the 2014 CK Nayudu Trophy, he scored 4 centuries against 4 different teams and scored 282 runs in the final to help Maharashtra lift the trophy. Due to his outstanding performance, BCCI awarded him India’s Best Cricketer Award in the under-25 category and BPCL started offering him a cricket scholarship. In the 2018-2019 Ranji Trophy season, he emerged as Maharashtra’s top scorer with 504 runs in 8 games. For his performance, he was awarded the Cricketer of the Year award in the senior category by the Maharashtra Cricket Association.

Rahul Tripathi made his debut in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Pune on January 5, 2023 and scored 5 runs. He became the 102nd player to represent India in T20Is. Against Sri Lanka in Rajkot, he scored 35 runs off 16 balls at a strike rate of 218.75, including 5 fours and 2 sixes.

In the 2017 IPL season, he played for the Rising Pune Supergiants and scored 391 points in 14 games with a strike rate of 146.44. In the 2018 and 2019 IPL seasons, he played for Rajasthan Royals and scored 376 points in 20 games with a strike rate of 127.41. In the 2020 and 2021 IPL seasons, he played for Kolkata Knight Riders and scored 627 points in 28 games with a strike rate of 133.68. In the second qualifier of the 2021 season, he scored six points in the penultimate game to help Kolkata Knight Riders advance to the finals. In the 2022 IPL season, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored 413 points in 14 games with a strike rate of 158.24.

  • Rahul Tripathi was very naughty during his childhood. On one occasion, he jumped into the nearby Ganges River and began to drown before being rescued by swimmers in the river. When he lived in Gangtok, Sikkim, he conceded more than 500 balls while playing cricket. Once, he went to a party with his grandfather, where he saw litti (round wheat dough balls) and started playing with them.

  • Rahul Tripathi follows a vegetarian diet and his mother prepares protein ladoos for him and he keeps them in his bag whenever he plays. He also loves Aloo Parathe; however, to stay healthy, he avoids fatty foods and eats only paneer, mushrooms, boiled vegetables and brown rice.
  • He loved dancing and had a large collection of Hindi songs.
  • Rahul’s father also played cricket before joining the Indian Army and played for the Uttar Pradesh Under-22 team as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

His family prayed at various temples and contacted many doctors, after which he started exercising and started playing cricket after 8 months.
  • He has a close relationship with his sister Rupali, who is 5 years younger than him. Rahul gave her 21 gifts on her 21st birthday.
  • While playing local cricket, he twice hit 6 sixes in an over.
