Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones was arrested Thursday in Las Vegas for allegedly violating a temporary protective order, PEOPLE can confirm.
According to the Clark County Detention Center, Jones, 33, violated a temporary protective order in connection with a domestic violence incident. He remains in custody as of Friday morning.
Jones, who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2015 before joining the Raiders in 2022, is scheduled to appear in court the morning of Dec. 4, according to arrest records.
On Friday, the team issued a statement about Jones on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The Raiders hope Chandler Jones gets the care he needs. He, his family and everyone involved are in our thoughts. As this is now a legal matter, we will not be making any further comment.”
PEOPLE has reached out to agents for the Las Vegas Raiders and Jones for comment.
The athlete’s arrest comes amid concerns from friends, fans and family about Jones’ mental health following a series of strange behavior on social media.
Earlier this week, Jones claimed on social media that he was hospitalized against his will by the Las Vegas Fire Department. The New York Post reported that one of Jones’ posts on Xu read: “Last week I was taken into custody against my will by the Las Vegas fire department.” He also claimed to have been “injected” with an unknown substance.
Jones’ other bizarre postings included handwritten journal entries and an alleged “patient’s rights” document he said he received at the hospital, according to Fast.

According to NFL.com, Jones said he was “confused about what I did wrong” in the now-deleted post, adding that “the police said people were worried about me because of my posts online.”
The Raiders placed Jones on their non-football illness list on Sept. 20, NFL.com reported, noting that the player “will be sidelined indefinitely as he deals with a personal issue.” The status update follows Jones’ absence in recent weeks.
“It’s a personal situation and a private matter,” Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said Sept. 6 when answering questions about Jones’ status. “We faced that and I’m not going to talk about it.”

Jones sparked more concern on social media this week before his arrest when he made surprising claims about McDaniels and the 2017 death of former football player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez.
“You don’t know what Josh McDaniels really did to Aaron Hernandez … You thought Aaron Hernandez killed himself in jail,” Jones said on the live stream, according to Fast.
