Schools have been closed in some districts of Kerala due to heavy rain

Rain in Kerala: The district administration has declared a holiday for educational institutions in some of the districts due to heavy rain which has caused floods in Kerala. In Alappuzha, a holiday was announced for educational institutions in Cherthala and Chengannur taluks that were running relief camps. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted light rain in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.

Heavy rains have been falling in the state for the last three days. In many places, many cases of uprooting of trees, flooding and collapse of walls have been reported. With this situation, it is expected that schools in Kerala may also be closed tomorrow.

Heavy rains caused closure of schools in parts of Kerala

A yellow warning predicts heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm. So far, there are no reports of major casualties anywhere in the country. Heavy downpour earlier submerged hundreds of acres of paddy fields at Edathua in Kuttanad region of Alappuzha district. The Disaster Management Authority has urged people living in high areas to be extra vigilant in view of the incessant rains.

Will there be school closures in Kerala tomorrow?

So far there is no update regarding closure of schools or educational institutions in Kerala for tomorrow. However, given the IMD predictions and the flood-like situation in some districts of Kerala, it is likely that schools may be closed tomorrow. However, an official update in this regard is still awaited.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in four districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha. To provide relief to those affected by the floods, the district administration has set up 17 relief camps, offering shelter to approximately 246 people.
