Rajat Tokas started his acting career as a child artist in 1999, playing the role of ‘Ashu’ in Doordarshan TV’s serial ‘Bongo’. He subsequently appeared in shows like “Jadui Chirag”, “Lighthouse”, “Ek Nazar Ki Tamanna”, “Mere Dost” and “Khoj Khajana ki”. In 2005, he played Sai Baba’s younger brother “Tantya” in the TV series “Sai Baba”.

In 2013, Rajat played the role of “Mughal Emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar” in the historical drama “Jodha Akbar”. His performance in the show was appreciated by the audience and also won him some awards.

Rajat later played the role of ‘Chandragupta Maurya’ in the TV series ‘Chandra Nandini’ on Star Plus.

He played the role of a wishful meerkat in the supernatural drama series Naagin and a wishful thinking snake in the third season.

Rajat has also appeared in films like “Kathputli”, “WHO”, “Prrna” and “Stumped”. However, none of his films were box office successes.

  • Rajat plays the role of ‘Akbar’ in the TV series ‘Jodha Akbar’. His serials were strongly protested by the Rajput Kshatriya Congress of India as they felt that wrong facts were presented in the show.
  • The actor has always been in controversy due to his bossy and rude behavior. Apparently, Rajat got into an argument with a boy on set on the sets of Jodha Akbar. Tokas repeatedly behaved rudely to the boys on set, who later beat him after the cast finished filming. However, the actor is said to have denied the incident.
  • Rajat is also rumored to be in a cold war with Jodha Akbar’s co-star Paridhi Sharma. In fact, Rajat is said to have sided with the director of the show when he misbehaved with Paridhi.

  • Initially, Rajat was meant to play the younger version of ‘Prithviraj Chauhan’ for just a few episodes. However, audiences loved his performance so much that the producers decided to extend his role for a few months.
  • Surprisingly, Rajat was not the first choice to play the role of ‘Akbar’ in the historical drama Jodha Akbar. Initially, Avinesh Rekhi was considered for the role.
  • Rajat prepared extensively for the role of ‘Chandragupta Maurya’ in the TV series ‘Chandra Nandini’. He learns to ride a horse, is trained with weapons, learns to walk in a specific way, and changes his voice and body language in different ways to illustrate his character. He even watched documentaries and books about the Mauryan Empire.
  • When Rajat completed the shooting of Jodha Akbar, Ekta Kapoor asked Tokas not to look for other scripts. Tokas kept faith in her and waited for her to come up with something and after a while she offered him Chandra Nandini.
