Rajeshwar Tewari

Rajeshwar Tewari is an Indian bridge player and IT professional at HCL. He won a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games. He is a founding member of Team Formidable.

Rajeshwar Tewari was born in 1963 in Delhi, India (age 60 in 2023). He completed his education from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in Delhi. He graduated in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi and did postgraduate studies in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from IIT Bombay. He has been working professionally in IT for the past 34 years.

Profession

In 1986, Rajeshwar Tewari joined TCS as a Programmer Analyst. In March 1988, he resigned from his job and joined PP Systems Task Pvt Ltd as a director. For the next seven years he served as director. He joined NIIT as Head in April 1995 and worked there for nearly a decade before joining HCL Technologies. In November 2005, he joined HCL Tech as BU Head. In 2011, he was promoted to Head of Software Asset Management (SAM) Function at HCL Tech. He became interested in the game of bridge while pursuing his master’s degree at IIT Bombay. Rajeshwar Tewari’s interest in the game of bridge took him to the level of representing India as a professional player in several national and international bridge championships.

Facts/Trivia

  • The arrest of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan caused huge uproar in Pakistan. Despite this, all 32 members of the bridge team from India arrived in Lahore safely and were well treated at the five-star Pearl Hotel. Speaking to PTI before boarding his flight from Amritsar Airport, Rajeshwar Tewari said,

    Organizers ensured they felt completely safe inside the Pearl Continental Hotel. They have made us feel special since we crossed the Wagah border into Pakistan. The Chairman of the Pakistan Bridge Federation came to the border to greet us. The standard of the competition was not the highest but in terms of hospitality it was the best experience of any overseas competition we have attended. We are also known for our hospitality in India, but when they come here it will be difficult for us to match them. ”
