Rajiv Luthra News

In 1991, Rajiv Luthra and Mohit Saraf established Luthra & Luthra – Law Offices India as a law company in New Delhi. Later, the company began providing legal counsel and managing the taxes and financial assets of well-known industrialists and businessmen. After that, a US-based corporation hired his company to serve as an advisor and aid it in conducting business in China.

In 1993, Luthra’s law company was essential to the merger of Coca-Cola and Parle Bisleri. In 2015, the $4 billion merger of Sun Pharma and Ranbaxy was made possible in large part by his company. After a dispute over partnership stakes in 2018, Mohit Saraf’s appointment was cancelled by Luthra.

In an interview, Rajiv discussed removing Mohit from his position and stated,

To illustrate my point, on October 12, 2020, he (Mohit Saraf) retired me from the Firm and wrote me a notice. Of course, he lacked such power. He also sent an email to the entire company shortly after this letter informing everyone that I had left the company. He allegedly distributed the equity I possessed to others that evening. As a result, I had no choice but to fire him in order to rescue the company and the clients who would lose out if the firm closed.

Later, Mohit Saraf brought a claim in the Delhi High Court challenging his termination. In their ruling in Saraf’s favour in 2021, Justices R. S. Endlaw and Sanjeev Narula of the High Court demanded that Luthra pay Rs. 52 Crores in addition to Rs. 25 Crores as bank guarantee. In July 2022, the company suffered another setback when the litigation department left and joined DSK Legal. The law business has offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru with more than 350 workers as of 2023. Later, he was essential in creating and presenting the 1957 Copyright Act modification.
