Court
Judge Swati Sharma told Singh, who appeared before the Delhi District Court via video link on Tuesday, that the courts had approved his extradition to Australia. When the transfer request was approved, Singh simply said “thank you”.
Singh admitted he knew he would be returned to Australia to stand trial for the murder and that a conviction in the case carried a life sentence in a statement he gave to a Delhi court earlier this month.
If the Indian government quickly approves the Delhi courts’ decision, Singh, who is currently being held in Delhi’s Tihar jail, could be returned to Australia in two to three weeks.
Their extradition has already received partial approval from India’s Foreign Ministry, but they have yet to ratify the court’s final decision, which is due to be handed over to the administration this week.
