Rakesh Bedi is an Indian theater artist and film and television actor. He is famous for his role as Omi in the Hindi film “Chashme Buddoor” (1981) and as Dilruba Jarnail Singh Khurana aka Dilruba in the Hindi TV series “Shrimaan Shrimati” (1982) aired on DD National.

- During his schooling, Rakesh participated in various one-man and drama competitions. Although he was inclined toward acting and aspired to become an actor, his parents disapproved and wanted him to pursue a career as a mining engineer. On his father’s advice, he took the entrance exam for engineering. However, he only attempted the exam for 5 minutes before handing his answer sheet to the examiner as he realized that engineering was not for him.
- In an interview, he recalled his student days. He revealed that during the high school examination, he performed poorly on the chemistry theory paper and could only rely on practice to obtain a passing grade. He said,
The school teacher who came to evaluate the practical exam was told that I had secured first position in the Delhi Mono Performance Competition, second position in the Delhi Mono Performance Competition and second position in the All India Mono Performance Competition and due to I go into these races all the time and I’m not fully prepared. As soon as the teacher heard this, he took me to his room, locked the door, and asked me to perform. He had a great time and couldn’t stop laughing. That’s when I realized acting was my calling. “
- In an interview, he shared how he got his first offer in a Hindi film. In 1976, he performed at the FTII rally in Pune. Indian film producer GP Sippy was invited to attend this event as the chief guest. After watching Rakesh’s performance, Sippy invited him to play a role in the Hindi film Ashas. He earned Rs 1,500-2,000 for the film, which he used to entertain his friends.
- In 1972, he founded Ankur Arts theater group in Delhi.
