Facts/Trivia

  • When he was in 12th grade, he wanted to drop out of school and study still photography. He went to the British Library and the American Library to study photography books. There he spent hours reading and one of his favorite books was Kavitha Naa Chirunama by C. Narayana Reddy.
  • In an interview, he recalled his struggling years and said:

I joined KS Prakasa Rao (brother of K Raghavendra Rao) as an assistant. But out of respect for my father, he didn’t do anything trivial. During that time, cinematographer VSR Swamy encouraged me and sent me to one of his friends in Bangalore. It was there that I learned about industrial photography. They use Cinar cameras, which cost around Rs 16 lakh each. I also applied to the live action and animation program at the California Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. But my parents wanted no part of it. “

    He further added,

It was suggested that I make a movie and I tried working with a popular director, but I lost money as the movie never got off the ground. I also started a mushroom business in Chennai but it didn’t work out. My mother suggested that I try acting. Since I respected her words, I decided to try acting and moved to Hyderabad. Then I called writer-actor Omkar. He promised me a role in his serial and the next day, I got a call from Balaji Telefilms mentioning his recommendation. I did a TV serial Sudigundali and acted in almost 50 episodes and was paid Rs 7,500, all of which I donated to the staff at home. “

  • In 1994, he wanted to go to the United States to study photography and animation, but he canceled his plans due to the death of his father in the same year.
  • In an interview, when asked if he had any regrets about his father, he replied:

Yes. I should spend more time with him. I will never have more than one conversation with him in my life. When he’s at home, he’s like a tiger. I wish I could interact with him more and share a lot of joy with him like many of my friends used to do with their respective parents. “
