Raphael Rowe, host of the Netflix documentary series Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons, was imprisoned for 12 years for a crime he did not commit. The mysterious scar running down the left cheek of a British TV presenter has piqued the interest of many people, but none more so than the mysterious scar running down his left cheek.
Rowe, who has never dealt with questions about the scar before, finally revealed the story behind it in his book ‘Notorious’, which will be published on December 20, 2020.
Rowe reveals the secret of his scar
The cast of Pilgrimage: The Road to Santiago has always been vocal about the psychological scars prison leaves on people. However, he rarely discussed the origin of the physical defect on the left cheek. His silence has also sparked a number of speculations among fans.
Many thought the BBC reporter had been scarred before he was jailed. Others on Reddit speculated that a fight while serving a 12-year prison sentence was to blame. The 53-year-old television presenter had previous convictions, including one for wounding with intent, before the wrongful conviction.
But finally, Rowe addressed the issue in a tweet in July 2020. In his book ‘Notorious’, he stated that the story behind the scar will be revealed at some point.
He explained that people should visit his website, sign up or order his book, read it, and ultimately learn the story behind his scar.
‘Notorious’ also includes exciting stories from his time in prison
In 2000, the media star told the Guardian about his terrible prison experiences. He told a story about people who were skinned after being doused with boiling water. Many of these events appear to be described in the book Notorious.’
What is good, what is bad, and what is ugly. “For the first time, this book will take you on a brutally honest journey through my incredibly personal journey.” Rowe’s website states: “My story, combined with an extraordinary journey to the forefront of investigative journalism, remains unparalleled.”
He also teased excerpts from the book on social media, describing a fight with another inmate, which was much more extensive and cumbersome.
He keeps his personal life private.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in February 2021, Rowe talked about his book and why he didn’t include all of his life stories. He explained that he is a private person who just wants to reveal things that he thinks people should know. He said this is also the first time he has shown that he is married with a wife and children.
I have always been a very withdrawn person. So, for example, I never talked about my wife and children anywhere, at any time, so for the first time in my book I reveal that I am married at all. Before his arrest, he had a girlfriend named Nancy Stanley and a son who was 12 years old in 2000.
His life is a life lesson of perseverance
In 1988, at the age of 19, Rowe was sentenced to life in prison on false charges of murder and robbery. However, after 12 years in prison, in 2000 the Court of Appeal finally overturned the invalid verdicts.
Then he was released from an unjust prison. When he was released, he was so unapproachable that people mocked him for not being able to use a cell phone. In an interview with the BBC, the Netflix star revealed that he has problems communicating with women. He also mentioned that opening the door makes him nervous because he never had to do it in prison.

Against the odds, Rowe recovered by taking a proactive approach. During his imprisonment, he attended a correspondence course in journalism. Moreover, during the long campaign for justice, the author aroused the interest of several television and print journalists.
The education benefited the aspiring journalist as it gave him insight into the world of reporting. He was so successful that he became the first mixed-race reporter for Today, The Six O’Clock News and Panorama.
As a result, the TV presenter re-established himself as a highly respected journalist. His message is clear: “Wherever you are in life now, don’t think you’ll be in the same place in 5 years, because your life can and will change,” he writes on his website.
“What matters is what you as an individual do to bring about those changes.” “Do you prefer to sit and wait or do you take control of your own destiny?”
