In 2008, Rashmi was named one of the top ten female influencers in the world in Web 2.0 by Fast Company. Rashmi Sinha was born in Lucknow, India. Rashmi completed her formal education at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, where she studied for a PhD in cognitive neuropsychology from 1993 to 1998. Prior to this, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Cognitive Science from Allahabad University. During her studies, she took computer science courses with Andy van Dam, which exposed her to HCI (human-computer interaction) thinking. Rashmi Sinha started her career in academics. She served as a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, she was a lecturer at the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley, where she taught human-computer interaction and statistics from 1999 to 2001. In April 2003, she quit her job in academia and founded Uzanto (meaning “user” in Esperanto, a type of artificial intelligence). Language), a user experience consultancy. People use it to share knowledge, ideas, and resources with a global audience, making it a valuable resource for professionals, educators, and businesses. Although SlideShare was officially launched in October 2006, the idea was conceived earlier in March-April of that year, and work began during the summer. Once launched, users quickly embraced the concept. Initially, the company was self-funded (“bootstrapped”) for about a year and a half, receiving angel investment in December 2007. In April 2008, SlideShare received “Series A” financing from Venrock. SlideShare has two offices, one in San Francisco with 10 employees and one in Delhi with 20 employees.
The platform experienced rapid user growth, attracting more than 50 million monthly users by 2012, when LinkedIn expressed interest in the company. SlideShare began focusing on monetization efforts in 2009 and became profitable in 2012, while continuing to invest in continued expansion. LinkedIn acquired SlideShare in May 2012 for $119 million (Rs 640 crore). After the acquisition, Rashmi Sinha led SlideShare as a division of LinkedIn. In her role, she not only manages SlideShare product, technology, marketing and teams, but also works closely with the LinkedIn leadership team to ensure alignment with LinkedIn’s overall strategy.
