He died on November 4, 2023, when he was stabbed with a sharp weapon at Kaushalnagar village market while he was campaigning for the upcoming assembly elections on November 7 and November 17. After his election campaign, a cockfight was held, during which Ratan was approached by a group of Maoists disguised as local villagers. He sensed the threat and tried to escape. He was chased by a group of men, one of whom attacked him from behind with a knife. As he fell to the ground, others began attacking him with a variety of weapons, including axes, guns and daggers. A police official informed in a statement,
Dube ran towards his car and tried to get inside, but several more people surrounded him and attacked him with sharp weapons, causing him to die on the spot. The incident sparked chaos. The BJP workers then rushed to the police station, which is about 5 kilometers away from the spot. “
After the incident, the police immediately rushed to the scene and transported the body to the headquarters for further investigation.

- According to police, Dubey is campaigning for Kedar Kashyap, who is contesting from the Narayanpur seat against Congress leader Chandan Kashyap.
- He was reportedly killed ten days after Maoists warned political workers and candidates not to campaign in Bastar district.
- Bharatiya Janata Party leader Om Mathur tweeted blaming the Congress and condoling Ratan’s death, writing:
I am deeply saddened by the brutal murder of Ratan Dubey Ji, convener of Narayanpur Assembly of Chhattisgarh BJP and vice-president of Narayanpur district, by Naxalites during the election campaign. The whole party condemned this cowardly incident. “
