Ravi Chopra is a famous Indian film producer and director. He is the son of BR Chopra, who co-directed one of India’s most successful TV series, Mahabharata, with his father. Ravi Chopra passed away on November 12, 2014 due to lung disease.

Ravi Chopra was born in Bombay on Friday, September 27, 1946 (age 68; death). His zodiac sign is Libra. Ravi pursued his bachelor’s degree from St. Xavier’s, Mumbai. After completing his degree, Ravi joined his father’s production company BR Films and began assisting him in directing films and TV series.

Ravi Chopra started his career as an assistant director and helped his father BR Chopra and uncle Yash Raj Chopra direct films. Ravi always wanted to direct films independently and made his directorial debut in 1975 with Zamel. Ravi also directed the epic TV series Mahabharata. Ravi made his debut as an independent director with the film Zameer (1975); starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saira Banu and Shammi Kapoor. Apart from this, Ravi has also directed TV series based on ancient Sanskrit texts such as Vishnupuram and Ramayana. In 1980, Ravi Chopra directed Burning Train and it became a cult classic over the years. The action thriller was a huge success in theaters. Another milestone in Ravi’s journey was Aaj Ki Awaaz (1984), a political thriller starring Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. One of his most famous films is Baghban (2003). The film had a slow start at the box office and its storyline was criticized. However, the younger generation and people in their early 30s started paying attention to the movie and it turned out to be a super hit movie. His last film as a director was 2006’s “Baabul”. Ravi has since worked as a producer on two films: Bhoothnath (2008) and Bhoothnath Returns (2013).

In October 2012, Ravi was diagnosed with severe lung disease and admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Doctors thought he had lung cancer, but after some tests they discovered that his diaphragm was paralyzed because one of his phrenic nerves was damaged. A portable ventilator imported from Sweden was attached to his trachea. Ravi Chopra died on November 12, 2014 at Breach Candy Hospital.

In 2009, American film studio 20th Century Fox sent a legal notice to Ravi Chopra. The studio has accused them of saying that Ravi Chopra’s upcoming film “Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai” is a replica of the 1992 Hollywood comedy film “My Cousin Vinny”. This is the first time a Bollywood film producer has entered into a legal battle with a Hollywood company. Ravi Chopra paid Fox Films $1.4 million to settle damages, and the film still hasn’t been released.
