Ravi attempted the UPSC exam for the first time in 2018, secured 337th rank, and was selected for the Indian Defense Accounting Service (IDAS). In 2019, he secured 317th rank in his second attempt and was selected for the Indian Railway Transport Service (IRTS). However, Ravi Kumar was so eager to become an IAS officer that he continued preparing for the Civil Services exam even after passing the exam twice. In 2020, in his third attempt, he failed to clear the UPSC preliminary exam. However, in 2021, he successfully cleared the exam in his fourth attempt with All India Rank (AIR) 18 and was appointed as an IAS officer.
In the UPSC exam 2021, the top 17 candidates were from English medium. However, Ravi Kumar Sihag, who appeared for the exam in Hindi medium, secured 18th rank, making him the highest-ranked candidate among all Hindi medium students in UPSC CSE 2021. Ravi’s main subjects in the UPSC examination were political science, economics and English literature, and he chose Hindi literature as an optional subject.
On August 30, 2023, Ravi Kumar Sihag started his training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. During his training, he participated and won the “Constitution and Life of Dr. Ambedkar” quiz conducted for Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti. For his victory, he was awarded the award by Ram Nath Kovind, the 14th President of India, and Gurmeet Singh, the Governor of Uttarakhand.
