Roopa Ganguly is an Indian politician, former actor and singer. She is best known for her role as ‘Draupadi’ in the Indian epic TV series Mahabharata (1988).

Roopa Ganguly was born on Friday, November 25, 1966 in Kalyani, Kolkata (age 53; as of 2019). Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. She was educated at Bertala Girls High School in Kolkata and went to Chaugamaya Devi College to pursue her B.Sc. After graduation, Rupa acted in several Bengali TV series.

Roopa Ganguly was born into a Hindu family. She is the daughter of Samarendra Lal Ganguly and Jushika Ganguly. Not much is known about her siblings.

Roopa married Dhrubo Mukerjee (mechanical engineer) in 1992. The couple has a son, Akash Mukherjee, who was born in 1997. Ganguly’s family life was very difficult as Dhrubo could not accept the fame she had. Mukherjee repeatedly tried to ruin her career. The couple divorced in 2006.
Roopa is also in a live-in relationship with playback singer Dibyendu, who is 13 years younger than Roopa. The couple lives in Rupa’s apartment in Mumbai. Their relationship ended after a few months of companionship.
Acting and singing career
Rupa started her acting career by appearing in several Bengali TV series. In 1986, she gained recognition for her role in the TV series “Muktabandha”. She made her silver screen debut in 1988 with Prabhat Roy’s Bengali film Prateek. In the same year, she appeared in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat. She is popular for her role as ‘Draupadi’ in the TV series.
Ganguly has acted in TV series like “Karam Apna Apna”, “Love Story”, “Vakt Batyega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya”, “Kasturi” and “Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo”.
Political career
Roopa Ganguly entered politics in 2015 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, Ganguly lost to Trinamool Congress candidate Laxmi Ratan Shukla from Howrah North. In the same year, she was nominated to the House of Representatives to replace cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had resigned from the party.

- In February 2017, Roopa Ganguly and the then state secretary of the BJP, Kailash Vijayvargiya, were summoned by the Crime Investigation Department to investigate the high-profile Jalpa case. The Jalpaiguri child abduction case is on trial after the main accused in the case accused Ganguly of being involved in the case. .
- Rupa Ganguly has been embroiled in controversy for her controversial remarks on women’s safety in West Bengal. Attacking the Mamta Banerjee government, Ganguly said, “Send their (Trinamool workers’) wives and daughters to Bengal… If they can survive there for 15 days without being raped, then tell me. ” This sparked the anger of the West Bengal government and an FIR was filed against her.
- When Ganguly appeared on the popular TV show ‘Sach Ka Saamna’, she once again courted controversy by revealing many shocking aspects of her personal life. Rupa admitted to having relationships outside of marriage and admitted to being asked for sexual favors in exchange for roles in Bollywood. She even revealed that she once received a call on her landline offering to give her Rs. Spend fifty thousand to spend the night with her.

- Her hobbies include reading novels and listening to music.
- Apparently, Ganguly tried to commit suicide three times but survived each time. She revealed in an interview that she gave up her career for marriage, moved to Kolkata, became a housewife, was denied daily expenses, and attempted suicide as a last resort.
- In 2009, she appeared on Friends FM’s show “Hello Bolchi Friends”.
- According to reports, in May 2016, during the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, Rupa’s car was attacked by Trinamool party workers in the Diamond Harbor area of South 24 Parganas district.
- Apart from being an actor and politician, Rupa is also a trained Rabindra Sangeet singer and classical dancer.
