Roopa Ganguly entered politics in 2015 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, Ganguly lost to Trinamool Congress candidate Laxmi Ratan Shukla from Howrah North.
