Ravish Kumar is an Indian journalist, author and television anchor, considered one of the most popular Hindi journalists in India. He is famous for his monologues in Prime Time, one of the highest-rated television news programs in India on NDTV. He quit NDTV on November 30, 2022, after Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy of RRPR Holding Private Limited, the promoter company of NDTV, resigned as directors.

Ravish Kumar was born on 5 December 1974 in Jitvarpur village, Motihari, Bihar (49 years; as of 2023). He attended a convent school in Patna. To further his studies, Ravish moved to Delhi in 1990 and studied at Deshbandhu College. At Deshbandhu College, lecturers like Anil Sethi and Rana Bahar became his mentors. Talking about Anil Sethi and Rana Bahar, Ravish said-
They taught me English, how to eat at the table, how to talk to girls, how to tie a tie. “
After completing his graduation in history, Ravish started preparing for the civil services examination. However, he failed the examination and was unable to pursue a master’s degree in history and later a master’s degree in philosophy from Deshbandhu College. from Delhi University. Thereafter, he went on to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication. Recalling his college days in Delhi, Ravish shared an incident when he was told that if he wanted to “go girl-watching”, he should head to M Block GK I Market. Ravish Kumar also said that before coming to Delhi, he had only seen the names of Lucknow, Jamshedpur and Ranikhet as big cities. While pursuing his master’s degree in history at Delhi University, Ravish met the late Parthasarathi Gupta, a brilliant professor of history at Delhi University. Professor Gupta is fondly called PSG by his students. Gupta’s lectures on urbanization were like guides to Ravish, changing the way Ravish looked at cities.

Ravish Kumar was born into a simple Bhoomiha Brahmin family. His father’s name was Bali Ram and he lived in the village of Jitwalpur in East Champaran. There is not much information about his mother. His brother Brajesh Kumar Pandey is an active politician in Bihar and has also contested elections under the name of the Indian National Congress. However, Brajesh had to quit the Congress after his name emerged in a sex scandal.
That was while he was studying for his master’s degree. Research reveals that Ravish Kumar met his future wife Nayana Dasgupta while she was studying at Indraprastha College in Delhi study.
Ravish and Nayana dated for about seven years before getting married. At that time, Ravish never had enough money, so he often took Nayana for long walks and visits to cafes. When Ravish told his family about Nayana, they openly opposed their marriage. However, Ravish breaks ties with his family for Nayana and marries her. The couple has two daughters.

In 1996, Ravish Kumar joined NDTV India. At NDTV, Ravish quickly rose to senior positions – from a reporter to senior executive editor. Many of his shows, including “Ravish Ki Report”, “Hum Log” and “Prime Time”, are considered among the highest-rated Hindi news programs in India.
Most of his programs cover themes of socio-political issues. The first “Ravish Ki Report” was in Paharganj.
He resigned as Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India on November 30, 2022.
