There is nothing secret about Mormon wives and their love of fake hair. In fact, if there is anything from watching Hulu The Secret Lives of Mormon Women and Bravo The Real Housewives of Salt Lake Cityit’s about the term standing extension at JZ Styles Salon being nothing short of sacred in Utah.
But among the sea of Mormon women on reality TV with waist-length hair, there are a few who dare to go short. And we couldn’t help but notice that these girls are getting a negative edit. Just ask the Whitneys.
Both Whitney Leavitt (Secret lives) and Whitney Rose (RHOSLC) they were cast with a classic reality TV villain. Let’s dig deeper.
Leavitt kicks off the season with short hair, literally shedding her past (and her husband’s Tinder indiscretions) with a fresh look and leaving her “giving af” back in Hawaii. Fans of the show know that Leavitt brought the drama (and the ratings!) every time she was on screen. She’s been criticized for everything from happily telling all the MomTokers the nonsense they’ve been saying behind their backs to skipping out on co-star and best friend Mayca Neeley who launched her Babymama prenatal vitamins. (Women who support women be damned!)
“As far as this era of villains, I mean, yeah, I didn’t like what I was watching either,” Leavitt revealed in an op-ed for The Cut . “There was so much going on in my personal life. So when the show came out, I thought it was funny that they cast me as the villain, so I made fun of it.

In an interview with The Cut, Leavitt even noted that hair extensions “just aren’t for me.”
“I don’t know how people sleep on them or wash their hair. I just want to touch my scalp!”
Although so much has already been unpacked about The Secret Lives of Mormon Women (slow rocking rules, a marriage of laughing gas and botox, where the Mormon Afflecks fall on the Hollywood Affleck family tree – spoilers nowhere), Leavitt’s brave the move to rock a bob is seemingly a strategic game to set her apart from the rest — and what’s a bigger bad girl move than that?
Just ask Whitney Rose. The RHOSLC The Season 5 premiere was Whitney vs. Everyone else, as they shot (and literally threw glasses) Lisa Barlowe, who still hasn’t gotten over being labeled a “villain” by Whitney. Viall files podcast earlier this year.
Whitney storms out of Lisa “Besos” Valentine’s party, after a confrontation, pointing the finger at her as she leaves. Clearly, the rest of the cast is “Team Lisa” for now.

There’s also a new actress in the form of new cast member Bronwyn Newport, who piles on the fashion, who was named by Lisa Barlow as another villain to watch out for during a recent episode Watch what’s happening livetelling host Andy Cohen: “I think Bronwyn might be a bit mean.” (Bronwyn and Whitney seem to be teaming up this season as the villains unite.)
Bronwyn’s hairdo aside, wearing yellow cheetah hot pants and a bra to lunch is a sign that she can’t be trusted. Besides, she’s a brunette.
