Critics and theatergoers called him “bah humbug”. Reda new Christmas-themed action movie starring Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson.
The film, which had a whopping $250 million budget, has earned just $34.1 million since opening on Friday, Nov. 15, according to DiversityTerm i The Hollywood Reporter.
With data collected from 4,032 North American cinemas, Row One and beyond however, topped the domestic box office, ending the three-week streak it had previously held Venom: The Last Dance.
The film, which only earned a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, fared better with those who saw it, earning a 90% audience rating. The project also earned $14.7 million overseas in 75 markets during its second weekend in theaters there, per THR.

Prior to its release, the film — about a North Pole security chief (Johnson) who teams up with a bounty hunter (Evans) to rescue a kidnapped Santa Claus (JK Simmons) received harsh reviews.
USA TodayBrian Truitt noticed this Red it was more enjoyable than Hulk Hogan’s 1996 stinker Santa Claus with musclesbut he added “you’ll find a better dose of holiday spirit in Terrifier 3” — a gory horror movie about a killer clown that has grossed more than $80 million worldwide since its release in October.

Regardless of what the general public thought of the film, Johnson and Evans clearly had fun making it.
“I laughed so many times. I’m notorious for ruining recordings. I’m laughing; it just happens,” Johnson told PEOPLE about shooting scenes with his costar. “Chris is a very funny guy. He’s also very talented.”
