Ree Drummond dreams of getting closer to her first granddaughter. Alex Drummond Scott welcomed her daughter Sofia on December 19. After the birth, Ree posted on Pioneer woman from the website to the blog highlights from Sofia’s first week and a half of life. “I need to stay in Dallas long enough to fall hopelessly in love with her,” Ree wrote. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t check Zillow for houses not only on Alex and Mauricio’s street, but on their block and actually right across the street from their house.”
Ree and her husband, Ladd, live in Pawhuska, Okla., about five hours from Alex’s home in Texas.

Ree Drummond says daughter Alex’s husband was so supportive during birth she ‘questioned’ whether she should be there
“It’s like when I come back from vacation to Vail, Colorado, and I start looking for homes to buy in Vail because I just don’t want that vacation feeling to end,” Ree continued. But with her new granddaughter, the feeling is “even deeper,” Ree wrote. “I don’t want my time with Sofia to ever end, and while none of the ‘second home’ scenarios are very likely, a girl (and grandma) can certainly dream.”
The Food Network star shared her six favorite moments with her new grandchild, including spending time with Alex and her husband Mauricio at the hospital and introducing the newest member of the family to other loved ones, like Ree’s younger daughter Paige and her fiance David.
“As is the case with most young men in their twenties, [David] he hasn’t had much experience with babies, so it was fun to watch him jump in and enjoy his niece (or niece-to-be, if we’re being technical),” she wrote. (Paige and David are getting married in May.)

Ree Drummond says she will ‘never be the same’ after daughter Alex welcomes ‘perfect’ baby girl
The interaction with the baby was like “muscle memory” for Ree, who also shares sons Todd, Bryce and Jamar with Ladd. “One thing I saw right away is that once you give birth/hold/raise babies, you never forget anything,” she wrote in the post. “It’s been a while since I’ve held a baby all the time; after all, I’ve been dealing with very tall teenagers and young adults for the past few years. But these hands and arms didn’t miss a beat.” The celebrity chef said that Alexa’s husband was Alexa’s biggest cheerleader when she gave birth – so much so that she wasn’t even sure if he should be in the room.
“Alex did great and so did Mauricio,” Ree wrote in another blog post. “We got to Dallas and saw them at the hospital just as Alex was transitioning from latent to active labor, and it was so wonderful to see how much they love and support each other.”
