Before there was Barbiecore, there was pink Elle Wood, and Reese Witherspoon is here to remind everyone of that.

For her appearance at Amazon’s May 14 kick-off, the actress and producer, 48, once again donned her Legal blonde the character who will announce the previous installment of the hit film franchise, Ella.

Witherspoon took the stage carrying a Chihuahua and dressed in pink. Her stylist, Petra Flannery, chose a hot pink Dolce & Gabbana blazer and pleated skirt with her baby pink Christian Louboutin heels.

If you ever wondered “why pink?” The film’s costume designer, Sophie De Rakoff, explained how they stumbled upon Elle’s signature color in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The back story is that Reese and I, and maybe the production designers, went to visit some sororities [in downtown Los Angeles]. We knew she needed a distinctive color and we asked ourselves: ‘Do we really want it to be pink? It’s right on the nose. It’s so feminine. Can we make lavender? Can we have light blue? Is there another color we could do?’ When we met all the sorority girls, it had to be pink.”

Legal blonde Prequel series ordered to Prime Video with Reese Witherspoon as executive producer

The Big little lies The actress also shared an Instagram video of her Elle transformation before unveiling the project at an event in New York.

“Before she became the most famous vegetarian Gemini who graduated from Harvard Law, she was just an ordinary high school student from the 90s. And you’ll all meet her next year on @primevideo. I’M SO EXCITED!” Witherspoon captioned the clip.

As the title of the series suggests, Ella will follow Elle Woods through her high school years. According to an announcement shared with PEOPLE, the prequel deals with “the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love at the beginning Legal blonde movie.”

Witherspoon, whose Hello Sunshine production company is handling the series, will executive produce alongside Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, Marc Platt and creator Laura Kittrell.

Although it’s been 23 years since Witherspoon first starred in the rom-com in 2001 (and 21 since she reprized her role in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blue)she kept her wardrobe handy.

In 2019, she revealed that she kept all of Elle’s costumes from the 2003 sequel, and that includes her sizable collection of Jimmy Choo shoes — all 77 pairs.

I had it written into the contract, Witherspoon said. She “never touched them” but “tried them all on” after taking them out of storage for the film’s 15th anniversary. Even her daughter Ava Phillippe, now 24, was able to reap the benefits of her mother’s epic archive. “Some of them respond, some don’t,” she said. “It was really cool.”
