Reese Witherspoon's Son Deacon Phillippe in Talks to Star in Movie with Liam Neeson

Deacon Phillippe, son of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, is in talks to make his feature debut alongside Liam Neeson.

On Friday, August 30, Deadline reported that Deacon, 20, may be starring in a brand new heist movie alongside Neeson, 72. Titled Four children enter the bank, the film will also feature Talia Ryder, Noah Jupe (Peaceful place), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl) and Jack Dylan Grazer (It), according to the socket.

Deadline describes the film — based on the graphic novel of the same name by Matthew Rosenberg and Tyler Boss, and set to be directed by Frankie Shaw — as a “dark heist comedy.”

“Neeson will play ex-bank robber Danny, whose teenage granddaughter Paige (Ryder) means the world to him,” reads the synopsis from Deadline. “So when he overhears that his former gang is pulling him back for another score to pay off a debt, he comes up with the only logical solution: He hires his three best ride-or-die friends to rob a bank the day before so he doesn’t have to.”

This is not Deacon’s first foray into the world of professional entertainment. Last year, the student announced that he was releasing his debut album entitled New Earth.

The 12-track album debuted in April 2023, during Deacon’s first year of music studies at New York University. The 20-year-old told PEOPLE at the time that filming in his home while attending school was “one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done.”

The young actor previously made his TV debut when he joined the cast I never did for the third season of the Netflix series in July 2022. Deacon played Parker, a member of star Devi Vishwakumar’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) rival debate team.

The show’s creator, Mindy Kaling, previously said Party tonight that Deacon’s mom Witherspoon was honest with her about his desire to pursue acting.

“Reese told me he was interested in acting … and I just had this part that seemed really good to him,” Kaling, 45, said shortly after Deacon’s casting was announced. “He’s so super talented, obviously very handsome, but this is a kid who was raised by two very successful actors and he wanted to learn.”

Ryan, 49, spoke about his son’s creative endeavors. In August 2022, he said ET in that he was “so proud” of Deacon.

I’m so proud, Ryan said at the time. “He’s going to go to music college soon. That’s his primary focus. Acting he likes to do, and he’ll work according to what his appetites are for that, but his focus is primarily music.”
