- Renu lost her husband Yashpal Sharma on July 13, 2021. Yashpal died of heart disease at the age of 66. His funeral was held at Lodhi Crematorium, New Delhi. Among those mourning were his former teammates Madan Lal and Chetan Sharma.
- Her husband is an active player on the 1983 World Cup winning Indian cricket team. Yashpal played in all eight matches (for India) during the 1983 World Cup. In 2021, a Hindi film titled “83” was released; telling the story of India’s incredible Cricket World Cup victory in 1983. Indian actor Jatin Sarna plays the role of Yashpal in the film.
- Her husband Yashpal was also part of the selection panel for India’s World Cup-winning team in 2011.
