RHOM Star Alexia Nepola and Husband Todd Are Trying to Fix Their Marriage After Divorce Filing: 'It's Hard' (Exclusive)

The Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Nepola shares the news after her divorce from husband Todd Nepola.

“Todd and I are trying to figure things out,” Alexia tells PEOPLE at Bravo Fan Fest 2024. “We’re still working on getting better and stronger and figuring it out because we really love each other very much.”

She adds: “We see each other and learn to love each other more.”

On April 11, Todd made the decision to file for divorce. Hours after the news broke, Alexia addressed it on her Instagram stories, saying, “I’m shocked and heartbroken Todd has decided to end our marriage.”

Months after filing, she tells PEOPLE they’re not living together. “It’s good because we had time,” she says. “I think it helped us not living together, it helped us know that we really want to be with each other and that we really love each other and that we can’t live without each other. It’s just learning how to deal with all of this. ”

They won’t be spending Thanksgiving together right now. “I don’t feel like we’re ready yet,” she says. “But he’ll be with his girls and I’ll be with my boys and we’ll probably see each other later. We don’t want to hurt anybody, you know, our families along the way because we all love each other. So it’s hard.”

Alexia did spend the day at Bravo Fan Fest with Todd’s mom, though: “She’s such a Bravo fan and I have a wonderful relationship with her.”

Right now, Alexia says she ignores other people’s opinions and focuses on herself. “I always did everything from the heart,” she says. “I’m a fighter. I just don’t give up and I feel like he feels the same way and we really love each other. Relationships are hard and being on a reality show makes our relationship even harder.”

She says it’s also been difficult to deal with the divorce while cameras are filming season seven. “This season was so hard for me because I kind of had to talk about it and share it, and it’s not something that, you know, likes or wants, and I don’t want to either. But, you know, I’m on the show, that’s what what I’m doing.”

A few weeks after the divorce filing was announced, Alexia told co-star Marysol Patton on Marysol’s podcast, Ay Por Favorthat she questioned “What happened?”

Then she discovered that she was going through the five stages of grief. But she added that the couple “love each other” and that lack of love is not the reason for their separation.

“It’s just really sad, I guess we couldn’t figure out a way to fix things, and that’s why I was in such shock because I’m a fighter, I fight, right?” she said. “I never expected it, I thought things were good, so it was really shocking and I’m devastated.”
