RHOM’s Alexia Nepola Denies Rumors of Financial Troubles and Reveals the Real Reason She Hastily Moved (Exclusive)

Alexia Nepola sets the record straight about her finances.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 56-year-old The Real Housewives of Miami star is denying rumors that she and her husband Todd Nepola are struggling financially, insisting they are “perfectly fine” despite having to make a hasty move out of her 10,000 sq.ft. apartment during filming.

He didn’t look like that in the trailer for the sixth season of the Bravo series. In the video, Alexia’s co-star Adriana de Moura speculated that Alexia and Todd “have some financial problems.” That audio was aired just before a scene in which Alexia sat down and told her sons Peter, 31, and Frankie, 26, that “we have to leave the flat in 15 days”.

But things are not what they seem, says Alexia. Speaking about de Moura’s claims of financial insecurity, Alexia tells PEOPLE that her fellow housewife “made up the rumor,” suggesting de Maura is simply “trying to get back at me.”

“She can’t get over the fact that last season I told her honestly and with good intentions that the guy she was talking to might be married,” shares Alexia, “because that’s what Marysol [Patton] and the people spoke!”

During Season 5, Alexia accused de Moura’s then-boyfriend of still being married, stating that she had seen documents to prove that fact. However, Alexia failed to fully read the documents, and at a party for Nicole Martin and her fiance Anthony Lopez, de Moura’s man pulled out his final divorce decree for Alexia and asked her if she could “read it.”

“I know what he’s doing this season,” Alexia continues to PEOPLE. “He’s trying to teach me a lesson, ‘Well, you know the same way you made up the rumor about my boyfriend. Well, I can make up rumors about your husband.’ ”

“Some women will chase you forever. They don’t forgive,” Alexia adds. “First they started rumors that I had problems in my marriage because Todd didn’t show up at a party. And that obviously didn’t go anywhere, so they invented a rumor that we were moving because of financial problems. That’s funny. [Our exit] he had nothing to do with it.”

So why did Naples have to move out? Well according to Alexia, the change of address was simply a case of a real estate deal.

“They sold our unit, unfortunately, so we had 30 days — less than 30 days, actually — to find another place and move out,” Alexia says. “That’s the thing about being a landlord, sometimes it’s out of your hands.”

And while Nepola notes that her new apartment is “beautiful,” she says the couple is “paying a lot more and having less space.”

“That’s why those claims that we’re bogus didn’t even make sense, because now we pay more rent than before!” Alexia is joking.

That won’t be the case for much longer. “We’ll be looking for something that fits us better,” she tells PEOPLE. “And we’ll probably buy something instead of just renting like we normally do, which is my husband’s job. It makes more financial sense for him to rent than to buy, but for his wife it makes more sense psychologically not to have to move every two or three years or whenever they sell the apartment. So we’ll probably be looking for something to buy.”

Alexia also doesn’t let the rumors get to her, admitting that she and her husband find humor in the speculation. “I just laugh at it because there’s no truth in it,” she says. “I mean, if it did, then I might be upset about it. But Todd and I are just laughing all the way to the bank because honestly, and thankfully, that’s not the case.”
