RHOSLC: Meredith Says She Pushed for a Post-Nup When She Was ‘Terrified’ Seth Would Leave Her and Their 3 Kids

Meredith Marks has opened up about why she decided to enter into a postnuptial agreement after 15 years of marriage.

Meredith and Seth recorded theirs Hanging by a thread podcast on Tuesday in the episode The Real Housewives of Salt Lake CityMeredith recalled how Seth was “very out of touch with me” for a decade and a half after their wedding.

“I was moving with three kids from Chicago to Park City, Utah, where if you were to get divorced, it’s not good for women in Utah. I was worried that I’d love my kids and be stuck somewhere I don’t know and he’d leave me— admitted the owner of the boutique (51).

She added that “there was nothing financial about it, it was only about custody of our children”.

Seth seemed shocked to Meredith and asked, “You thought I was going to leave you?”

In a confessional interview, Meredith addressed the couple’s marital problems, saying, “I don’t think Seth remembers how bad things really were. Like, I was terrified at the time that he was leaving. Like, we weren’t happy together. It wasn’t good. ”

Seth admitted that he was focused on financial security, but was not fully available to his family during this period.

“I wasn’t there from an emotional support standpoint, I regret that and I apologize for that,” he told his wife.

“Thank you, honey,” she replied before he added, “I take responsibility for that.”

In September, Meredith opened up to PEOPLE about the state of her marriage and a podcast focused on their relationship.

“It’s a relationship podcast — because we’re constantly hanging on by a thread, although I will say our relationship is better than it’s ever been,” she explained. “I think that all relationships are somehow constantly hanging in the balance. But it’s interesting to work together.”

“We already spend a lot of time together just because we travel so much, and a lot of times, he works all day from the same space I’m in,” she continued.

Working so closely could give the two of them “another element” to argue about, but Meredith insisted their arguments were minor.

“We haven’t had that many fights about it, but sometimes it’s like, ‘Well, you said you were going to deal with this,'” she explained. “It’s an irritation. Nothing important.”

Meredith and Seth have been through many ups and downs in their relationship since tying the knot in 1996. The couple – who have children Reid, Chloe and Brooks – briefly split during of RHOSLC season one, which the reality star then explained had to do with their drifting apart over time.

“Over the years, it just broke,” she said in the 2020 episode. “We moved a lot. We were kind of uprooted — I was trying to start my company, he was running his business, we had three kids. There was just no communication and the animosity built and built and built, and we just became so totally overwhelmed that we were just completely shut out.”

The couple sought out a couples counselor who helped them realize that their marriage was worth saving. After coming out of therapy, Meredith said she and Seth felt “very strong, very united” and reinforced positive feelings about a future together.
