RHOSLC's Mary Cosby Reveals Her Son Tried Heroin amid Struggle with Addiction: 'If I Don’t Blame Myself, Whose Fault Is It?'

Mary Cosby sheds more light on her son’s ongoing battle with addiction.

The The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star continued to talk about Robert Jr.’s battle with addiction on the Dec. 11 episode of the reality show. For the first time since he admitted to using drugs, Mary confided in host Angie Katsanevas about what she was going through.

“I’ve had a rough day,” Mary said, to which Angie asked, “Yeah, what’s going on?”

“I feel like, you know, when your kids start acting weird, when they don’t look you in the eye, when they avoid you, when they’re in their own little, little space,” Mary began. “I say, ‘Okay, sit down and tell me what you’re doing.’ And it’s a boy. Oh man, oh man.”

Then she dropped the bombshell: “He opened up to me and told me things I didn’t know. He just told me, straight up, he said, ‘Mom, I’ve been doing drugs.’ He said, ‘Yes, mom, I’ve tried this, I’ve tried that.’ And I said, ‘What have you tried?’ He’s like a ‘heroin’.”

Earlier this season, cameras captured an intense scene between Mary and Robert Jr., where he revealed that he had been taking Xanax, acid, Molly, cocaine and Oxycontin.

“He says, ‘Mom, I was on Xanax and acid. And then I just started trying other things, and then I tried other things.’ And then he said, ‘At some point I felt it almost became an addiction.’ ‘Yes, it is,’ I said. “Not soon.” And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s addictive, Mom.'”

She then reflected on the heartbreaking moment he told her he didn’t want to live anymore, saying he felt like a “stain” on the world.

“I said, ‘I’ve been asking God for you. I asked you to be here. I prayed to have you. How are you a blob?” Mary said on the December 11 episode. “I said, ‘Do you understand that it took me four years to have you? I wanted so badly to be pregnant and then come here and make it this far in life and you told me you felt like a stain.’ I said, ‘What have I done? What did I miss?’”

“Didn’t I notice at some point that he had gone so far, to the point where he didn’t even want to live anymore?” she sobbed. “And where did I not ensure that he knows his value and that he knows how much he means to me? What happened? I mean, if I don’t blame myself, whose fault is it? I feel responsible.”

Growing up, Mary said that she and her siblings never felt a connection with their mother, so she always wanted to be close to Robert Jr. so she could help him through whatever he was going through.

“Mary, but it can happen to anyone,” Angie said.

“Yes, but it happened to me, Angie,” Mary replied.

“Mary, you can never bring that on yourself, because addiction is real,” said Angie, who previously revealed her mother was an alcoholic. “It is a disease. And I had to tell myself that with my mother. It helps with forgiveness and understanding where they are coming from. That’s not parenting. You did everything right along the way.”

Mary became even more upset in the confessional, explaining that she had no family to rely on in these difficult times.

“It is difficult. It’s really hard,” she said. “As a parent, you can feel like you’ve failed and there’s nothing anyone can do. I don’t have help, I don’t have a mother, I don’t have a grandmother, I don’t have anyone I can call and say ‘Help me’. My son is going through this. help me What can I do?’”

She continued: “But it’s my responsibility to make sure he comes to me and if he says he wants help, it’s my responsibility to make sure he gets it. And whatever I have to do to do that, I’m going to do it.”

“He’s lucky to have you,” Angie said as she and Mary made a “pink promise” to keep their conversation between them.

Mary then told that Robert Jr. went to a drug rehab program and is “doing very well.”
