Rich Homie Quan was laid to rest in a celebration fit for the king of hip-hop.
Family, friends and fans of the late rapper — who died Sept. 5 at age 34 — gathered at World Changers Church International in South Fulton, Ga. at a celebration of life in his honor on Tuesday, September 17. it was open to fans and also streamed live online.
The star (born Dequantes Devontay Lamar) has been honored with numerous musical tributes as well as remembrances from family members, including his father Corey Lamar and siblings Andre Munford and Cekoye Munford, according to an obituary the family shared online.
His estate also released an emotional song just a day before the funeral called “Song Cry.”
“The first time I hugged you, my life changed instantly,” Lamar wrote in the tribute published in the obit. “That’s when I knew I had a purpose in life… Thank you for being the most amazing human being and most importantly, I think God let me be your dad. Until we meet again – rest in peace son.”

Quan’s mother, Tammie Morgan-Chism, also paid tribute, writing: “When a man said I would never have children, God blessed me with you, and you were the anchor of my life from start to finish. God knows I am grateful for the 34 years God has allowed me to share you with the world. No more late night and early morning conversations, but the presence of knowing that you are my personal angel is good in my soul.”
The obituary called Quan, a proud father of five, a “prodigy child” who had a distinct talent and passion for baseball and music.

“In his spare time, Quan could often be found in the batting cage, perfecting his swing. Over the years, he has played every position on the field, gaining a good understanding of the game,” said obit. “When he wasn’t on the diamond, Quan was either listening to music or making his own.”
It was also revealed that Quan was awarded a scholarship to Fort Valley State University, but chose to pursue his dreams of becoming a musician instead, with his family building studios in their homes to support him.
After signing his first record deal in his early 20s, Quan became “known for his relentless work ethic” and formed a group with Mafia called the No Sleep Gang.
He released his mixtape I’m still entering 2012, and the remastered version featured his first gold-certified hit, “Type of Way”.
He released the triple-platinum hit “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” in 2015, and his debut full-length album, Rich as in Spiritdebuted in the Top 20 of Billboard’R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart.
“Rich Homie Quan’s legacy of musical innovation is indelible,” the obituary reads. “Since his debut, he has continuously reshaped Atlanta’s legendary music scene and sound with his signature style, marked by unconventional beats and compelling melodic singing.”

Quan, who fathered sons Devin, Royal, Khosen and Loyal, and daughter Alayne, will be laid to rest at Atlanta’s Westview Cemetery.
The cause of his death has not yet been revealed. According to an incident report obtained by PEOPLE, Quan’s brother told police he woke up at 3 a.m. the day of his brother’s death to find the rapper sleeping on the floor next to the kitchen with food in his mouth, which he thought was “very unusual.” Then he picked up the star from the floor and placed it on the couch.
The woman who lives in the home eventually called the police later that morning at 11 a.m. after noticing that Quan’s body was cold and not breathing. She told officers she saw him on the couch earlier that morning but assumed he was asleep, according to the report.
