Richard Wilkins Career
Richard Wilkins made his media debut as Richard Wilde and immediately rose to fame as an up-and-coming singer. PolyGram signed him to a global deal.
He moved Wilde And Reckless to Australia in 1980, where they enjoyed great success, published a few singles and a six-track EP, and went on tour with Grace Jones. Later, he decided to leave the music business.
Wilkins was the initial host of MTV Australia when it debuted on Nine in 1987, and this is where he began his career as a television presenter alongside Joy Smithers. In 1992, he presided over Keynotes, a midsummer alternative for Sale of the Century. In 1999, he and Marie Patane co-hosted the Australian edition of Entertainment for Tonight.
He has presided over the Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks telecast for eleven years running. On July 7, 2007, Wilkins performed in the Live Earth concert’s Australian leg. David Campbell co-hosted Today Extra in 2019 because he was hosting Weekend Today at the time. He was successful in getting hired as Weekend Today’s co-host the following year.
He later started seeing Rebecca Naso; the couple was photographed together by paparazzi in 2008 and were said to have been dating for a while.
