Rising Soccer Star, 16, Dies in ‘Heartbreaking’ Car Crash into Canal

A teenage football star and his father were tragically killed in a car accident.

Cameron Walsh, 16, and his father David Walsh, 40, died after their Mercedes 300 veered off the road and plunged into a canal near the village of Tetney in England on Saturday, Lincolnshire Police said in a statement.

Both Cameron — a Grimsby Town Football Club academy player — and David were pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Grimsby Town Football Club announce the untimely death of one of our much-loved youth team members, Cameron Walsh, aged 16, and his father Dave,” the football club said in a statement on Monday’s deaths.

A GoFundMe has now been set up to support the families of the victims.

“On Saturday 6th January two dear friends were taken from us in tragic circumstances, this has left a huge hole for many of us, not just his family,” wrote friend and page organizer John-Patrick Gaughan. “There is not much we can do to help Dave and Cameron’s family at this time other than to show that we are here for them.”
