Shawn Johnson East opens up about balancing life with a newborn.
The former Olympian, 31, recently posted a sweet photo of herself with her 4-week-old son Barrett “Bear” Madison to her Instagram Story, adding a lengthy caption that gave an update on how she’s adjusting to life with three kids.
“The most amazing thing about this special little window of time with a newborn is being able to hold him, cuddle him, nurse him and be with him 24/7,” she wrote. “It’s a time like no other that you’ll never get back.”
“BUT. The hardest part of this short phase is missing my big kids,” she continued to admit. “Dad does the best job in the world showering them with attention and adventures, but this mom misses her big babies.”

Shawn Johnson’s daughter Drew, 4, cut off her hair in a classic toddler moment: ‘How did I not see this coming?’
In addition to her newborn, Johnson East is mother to sons Jett James, 2, and Drew Hazel, 4, who she shares with husband Andrew East.
Over the weekend, Johnson East found herself in a very close parenting moment after her daughter decided to cut off some of her own hair.
The retired gymnast took to Instagram to share a photo of herself holding a lock of hair, with a caption explaining that it belonged to Drew.
“Teaching your child how to use scissors means he’ll think he’s a hairdresser. How did I not see that?”
The next story zoomed in on a sizable chunk of hair, followed by another showing the back of Drew’s head, with her hair in ponytails and a circle around the missing mass of hair.
In December, Johnson East celebrated her first Christmas as a family of four, sharing a glimpse of the family’s festivities, which came just two weeks after giving birth to her third child.
Johnson East shared special moments with her three children as they celebrated the holiday. “MERRY CHRISTMAS!!” she captioned the Instagram Reel, showing off the family’s holiday look.
