Rob Lowe Says He and Demi Moore 'Briefly Had a Thing' Early in Their Careers: 'Hookups Are Inevitable'

Rob Lowe and Demi Moore’s movie romance briefly turned into reality, he says 9-1-1: Lone Star actor.

This week, Lowe joined Kelly Ripa on her podcast Let’s talk in front of the camerawhere is it Live! With Kelly and Mark the host pumped him for details about his relationship with Moore.

“You two have crazy good chemistry,” Ripa said, noting that in 1986, Oh last nightin which Lowe and Moore played a couple who move in together after just a few dates, is one of her favorite films.

“Of all the things I did in the 80s, if I had to choose one, it would definitely be that Oh last night“, said Lowe (60) about the film.

Lowe and Moore, who were both considered part of the “Brat Pack” of young Hollywood stars in the 80s, also starred in the 1985 film. St. Elmo’s fire. During their conversation about the film, Ripa (54) once again mentioned Moore (61).

“Did you fall in love with her?” she asked. “Have you ever dated? Did you all date each other? Was it like, just—was it a big mess?”

Lowe joked that it was a “big, big sexual orgy” among the actors in the film.

“I mean, Demi and I briefly — I don’t tell stories outside of school — we had a little something,” he continued, adding that it happened before Moore’s engagement to Brat Pack co-star Emilio Estevez. (The couple broke off their engagement in 1986.)

“Look, anytime you put young men and women in their 20s together, relationships are inevitable,” Lowe said.

Lowe said he and Moore remained friends over the years, communicating via text about the prospect St. Elmo’s fire a sequel that is supposedly in the works.

“It’s moving on,” he said of the project. “It’s going a little slower than I’d like, but that’s good because we’re trying to find the right person, the right writer, and the right story. But all the actors, they’re all involved. Everyone is excited.”

A pack of brats: Where are they now?

Lowe said he believes the original film still resonates with audiences today for several reasons. “It spoke to where we were all in our lives. Will we ever have deep friendships after college and into our early 20s? Will it last in our lifetimes? And where are we going now that we’ve really grown up?” he explained.

“I think the theme is St. Elmo’s fire Today is when it’s never too late to be happy,” Lowe continued. “You know, since our kids aren’t in school, and maybe some of us are divorced…all the things you deal with when you get to our age, this is an opportunity to explore those themes with characters that people know and love. ”

“I actually think there’s a lot to be said for why we’re doing this and I’m really excited about it,” he added. “I hope we can make it.”
