Career
Robby gets his first electric guitar in 1982. He played in various bands in college and also interned at a local radio station reading commercials for a local toilet manufacturer. His professional career took off when he joined the rock band Beaumonts, later Monarch, in 1985. He met guitarist John Rzeznik and percussionist George Tutusko. They appointed Takac as the lead singer and bass player of their new band “Sex Maggots”. The band’s name was changed to “Goo Goo Dolls” in 1986.
The song “Name” was their first commercial breakthrough. Since then, the Goo Goo Dolls have produced several albums and toured regularly. They took the studio public as GCR Audio in 2009.
