Robert De Niro’s daughter Drena mourns her son Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez.
The 52-year-old actress – who is the adopted daughter of the film legend – wrote an emotional tribute to her son on Instagram on Monday alongside photos taken at his grave.
Leandro tragically died of an accidental drug overdose on July 2.
“If everyone appreciated the depth of love and grief, a person can feel that I don’t believe we would have wars, if we didn’t hurt children or animals, our planet and oceans the way we do,” her tribute read.
The emotional actress visited her son’s grave.

“I feel sorry for myself, for my loved ones and for everyone who has ever lost a child or the one they loved so much,” she continued. “I will never get used to this, no one should 😢 I pray that the whole world heals and that this beating heart inside of me finds peace.”
Drena also published a photo of a rock with a winged heart drawn on it, which she placed on her son’s grave.
The actress wrote an Instagram story in Italian, “Mi manchi motto molto, il mio amore, mio cuore, Leo”, which translates to “I miss you so much, my love, my heart, Leo”.

On the other side of the rock she wrote: “Leu, we love you. The world misses you.”
“I love you sweet boy,” she wrote along with a photo of flowers placed on his grave. “Rest in peace and may you always remain full of love and light.”

Leandro was found dead at the age of 19 on July 2 in New York. The chief medical examiner ruled his death an accidental drug overdose. Drena previously claimed on Instagram that her son was sold “fentanyl tablets”.
20-year-old Sophia H. Marks was later arrested in connection with the teenager’s departure.
In a statement to PEOPLE at the time, the 80-year-old Hollywood actor said, “I am deeply saddened by the death of my beloved grandson, Leo.”

“We greatly appreciate everyone’s condolences. Please allow us privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
Meanwhile, Drena shared: “It is with immense shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we be granted privacy at this time to deal with this inconsolable grief.”
On August 11, Drena commemorated her son’s 20th birthday with a touching tribute on social media.
“Today would have been 20 years old 💔 Thank you for the happiest and deepest decades of my life, little angel,” she wrote. “I hope you are at peace and your spirit is filled with joy today and always.”
