Congress said other owners tried to justify racist slurs to increase profits. They said: “They deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, not as a demeaning caricature or mascot.” The members took the issue to court, but no settlement was reached, and Roger was no longer involved.

Roger Goodell was born in Jamestown, New York on February 19, 1959. His father, Charles Ellsworth Goodell, was a US Senator from New York and his mother, Jean (Rice) Goodell, was from Buffalo, NY. Goodell’s early academic and athletic achievements demonstrated his extraordinary abilities. He attended high school in Bronxville, where he excelled academically, competing in three sports: football, basketball and baseball.

His leadership skills were evident when he captained all three teams during his senior year and was also selected as the school’s athlete of the year. Despite his exceptional football ability, injuries prevented Goodell from pursuing a college football career. Roger is married to Jane Skinner, a former Fox News Channel anchor. Jane was born on February 12, 1967 to Samuel K. Skinner and Susan Ann Thomas.

Skinner began her career as a political reporter for KBJR in Duluth, Minnesota. She then joined Fox News as a general reporter for WNBC-TV in New York, leaving in 2010. NFL Commissioner Goodell married Jane Skinner on October 25, 1995. The couple has two children, twins. They were born in 2001.
