Roja Selvamani is an Indian politician and former actor. She is known for her roles in Tamil and Telugu films. She was appointed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Youth Development of Andhra Pradesh.

Roja Selvamani was born on Friday, November 17, 1972 (age 50; until 2023), originally named Sri Latha Reddy, in Tirupati, Tirupati District, Andhra Pradesh. Later, she moved to Hyderabad with her family. She pursued her BA in Political Science from Sri Padmavati Women’s University, Tirupati. Roja started learning Kuchipudi at a young age and was a trained dancer before making her debut. At the age of 10, she performed for the first time in a documentary directed by her father. Later, during her freshman year in college, she got another chance at acting.

Roja made her debut in the Telugu film Prema Thapasssu (1991) with Rajendra Prasad in 1991 and her second film, Sarpayagam, was a Telugu film starring Sobhan Babu. From 1991 to 2002, she was a leading actress in the Telugu film industry. She acted in more than 50 Telugu films including Atta Sommu Alludi Daanam (1993), Subhalagnam (1994), Anna (1994), Maya Bazaar (1995) and Torah Pi Raja Sweet Roja (1996).

In 2004, she played the role of Jaya Gour in Udaya TV’s Kannada show Uttarayana (2004). She has also been a judge on a number of shows and weekly TV shows, including Nachore (2011), Jabardasth (2013-2022) and Ragada: The Ultimate Dance Show (2015). She has hosted many TV shows such as “Racchabanda” (2016-2017), “Bathuku Jatka Bandi” (2018) and “Tasmath Jagratha” (2019).

Roja started her political career in 1998 by joining the Telugu Democratic Party. She was elected as the chairman of the Telugu Mahirah faction of the party. In 2004, she contested from Nagari constituency as a TDP candidate but lost. In 2009, she contested again from Nagari constituency but lost again. She resigned from the TDP party in 2009 and joined Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party in the same year. In 2014, Roya contested as YSR Congress candidate from Nagari constituency and was elected as MLA. In December 2015, Roja was suspended from attending the state assembly for making derogatory remarks about the then state chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. In 2019, she was appointed as the president of YSRCP women’s chapter. In 2019, she contested again from Nagari constituency and won. In 2020, she was appointed as the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
