Roman Saini is an educationist, entrepreneur, former IAS officer, doctor and motivational speaker. He is the co-founder of ‘Unacademy’, an educational initiative that provides online (free and paid) educational content for competitive exams.

Roman Saini was born on 27 July 1991 (32 years old; as of 2023) in Raikaranpura village, Kotputli town, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was born into a middle-class, academically sound family, which helped him excel in his studies.
After completing his studies, he appeared for the AIIMS entrance exam and became the youngest person to pass the exam at the age of 16. Roman went to AIIMS to pursue MBBS.

Roman belongs to a Hindu family of Mali Community (OBC). His father is an engineer and his mother is a housewife. Roman’s brother Avesh Saini is a pediatrician and his sister Ayushee Saini is a medical student.
Profession
Roman started his career as a junior resident doctor at AIIMS. During his residency, Roman visited medical camps in various impoverished areas of India, where he saw people struggling with even basic amenities. It was then that he decided to take the civil service examination in order to contribute to society on a larger scale.
When he was in the second year of his MBBS course, one of his friends, Gaurav Munjal, approached him with the idea of starting an educational portal. Roman joined forces with Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh and Sachin Gupta to start ‘Unacademy’, an educational venture that later became a popular education portal among students preparing for competitive exams, especially those aspiring to UPSC.
At the age of 22, Roman passed the Civil Service Examination in his first attempt and obtained AIR 18. He is one of the youngest aspirants in India to clear the exam. After completing his training at Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, he joined Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh as Assistant Collector. In 2016, Saini resigned from his position as Assistant Collector to devote more time to his initiative ‘Unacademy’.
Roman and his team (consisting of civil servants, teachers, engineers, doctors and experts in other fields) started building Unacademy’s YouTube channel, uploading learning materials related to medicine, IT, civil servants and foreign languages. Shortly after posting, the videos began racking up millions of views. Not only that, it is said that more than 10 subscribers of the channel have passed the civil service examination by following the tips given on the channel.
