Brooke Shields Reacts to John Mulaney Recreating Her Iconic Calvin Klein Ad: 'I See No Difference'

Brooke Shields weighs in on John Mulaney’s latest photo shoot.

The model and actress, 59, seized the moment to give the comedian a shout-out as she recreated her iconic Calvin Klein jeans ad. Mulaney, 42, returned to Saturday night live as host of the Saturday, November 2 episode and in one of the promotional photos, he struck the same pose as Shields’ history-making campaign in 1980.

Imitating Shields, Mulaney wore a red button-down shirt, dark denim jeans and black boots as he raised one leg in the air and rested his palms on the floor behind him.

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, Nov. 3, Shields put the pictures side by side. “I don’t see any difference…” she joked in the description. “Guess they can be your Calvins too @johnmulaney đŸ‘–đŸ€Ł @nbcsnl @calvinklein.”

Fans were quick to throw in their own jokes in the comments section. “John didn’t point a toe – minus three style points,” wrote one user.

“Backward bridge triceps hold plus kicks! Renaming them Brooke [Shields] punches!” said another.

Others recalled the memorable commercial. “Classic picture!!” said one commenter, while another interjected, “I have your picture in my HS yearbook!”

When the campaign was released, the image drew criticism from those who felt it sexualized Shields, who was 15 at the time. Aside from the pose, in one of the campaign ads, Shields recited the now-infamous line: “You wanna know what’s between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”

In the video for 2021 Voguestar called the controversy “ridiculous.”

“I was away when everyone came out, and then I started hearing, ‘Oh, commercials are banned here, and Canada won’t let them.’ And paparazzi and people screaming at me and my mother, ‘How could you?’ I thought it was so funny, the whole thing,” she recalled.

Shields explained, “They take one commercial, which is a rhetorical question. I was naive, I didn’t think anything of it. I didn’t think it had anything to do with underwear, I didn’t think it was sexual in I would say that to my sister, ‘No one can come between me and my sister.'”
