Ronda Rousey Hints at Retirement with Cryptic Instagram Post

Ronda Rousey may be hanging up her fighting gloves for good.

The UFC champion, 36, shared an Instagram post on Wednesday with some intimate shots of her hanging out with her husband, daughter and friends and hinted that retirement could be nearing.

In the Instagram carousel, she could be seen carrying her daughter La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne, 2, in her arms as they strolled through farmland with horses in the background. In another shot, he appeared to be having fun in the pool with a can in hand.

The third and final shot showed her posing with husband Travis Browne outside their home. All the photos are set in black and white, similar to another post earlier this month where she showed her daughter posing like her.

“‘I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you during my retirement.’ Bernie Lumen ❤️🔥,” she captioned the photos.

Rousey, who married Browne in her home state of Hawaii in August 2017 and welcomed her daughter four years later in 2021, has been spending the last few months on mommy duty.

She shared tons of photos with her daughter on Instagram and even talked to PEOPLE about her for her Stars on Mars preview of the event, saying that La’akea will be one “tough” kid.

“Oh, she’s definitely going to be tough. She doesn’t react to pain as much,” Rousey said. “Today she just fell and scraped her knee and was like… she didn’t even cry. She just kind of grunted!” She jokingly added: “The world is not ready for this little girl.”

Rousey, who built a career in the UFC and made her WWE debut a few years ago, also admitted that motherhood has changed her priorities and opened up about how it has changed her over the years.

Who is Ronda Rousey’s husband? All about Travis Browne

“I’m so much happier not thinking about myself all day anymore,” Rousey shared with PEOPLE at another event. “I’m always thinking about her and I’m focused on her and… I don’t know. Am I more attentive?”

“I think the best part of it is that it’s made me mentally healthier and I’ve stopped beating myself up so much because I’m so worried about taking care of her,” she added.

This isn’t the first time Rousey has hinted at leaving WWE. She stated in 2019 that she is not sure what her life will be like after having a child.

“I don’t know what it’s like to have a child,” she said. “I could look down at this beautiful child and say ‘Y— everything, I don’t care about anything but this child.’ And you’ll never see me again Or I could be like my mom [AnnMaria De Mars], who trained while eight months pregnant, then won the US Open six weeks after giving birth. Which was amazing.”

She continued: “I don’t think I’m going to try to aspire to her level. But I’m just saying, you never know. I don’t want to make any promises about the future when I don’t know how I will feel in the future.”
