My uncle was my first coach and I used to be the only girl among 80-100+ boys in his academy. In the days when girls were frowned upon for wearing jeans, I somehow managed to play the sport. Before becoming a full-time cricketer, I represented junior states in gymnastics and also played volleyball at school national level. The first time I played ball was in 1996. Cricket is an expensive sport and my family, coming from a meager financial background, was skeptical about letting me play the sport. My uncle convinced my mother that I was allowed to pursue my passion. My uncle supported me financially and some of the senior boys I played with lent me cricket accessories. “
