Ryan Reynolds champions the art of comedy acting.
The Deadpool & Wolverine star was revealed to be one of the contestants selected for Diversity“Actors About Actors” series that pairs performers to discuss their spirited performances during awards season.
Reynolds (48) co-starred with Andrew Garfield in the romantic drama We live in time opposite Florence Pugh.
After one person on X scoffed at the idea of Reynolds talking about playing a curmudgeonly Marvel character with Garfield discussing the emotional topics surrounding his project’s cancer, Reynolds responded, defending comedy acting as just as challenging.
“Andrew is a genius. He and Florence are magical together in WE LIVE IN THE TIME. They are heartbreaking and charming and spend the entire film in a fierce act of humanity and limitation,” he began in his post on X. “And yes, I’m Deadpool, BUT I will take a moment to speak in defense of comedy.”

“Dramatic work is hard. And we’re also meant to SEE it hard, which is one of the reasons it feels visceral and effective,” Reynolds continued. “Comedy is also very difficult. But it has an added dimension because it’s meant to look and feel effortless. You’re deliberately hiding the coupling and the separation.”
Reynolds, who starred with friend Hugh Jackman in this year’s sequel to the superhero hit, said “both disciplines are beautiful” and “both work beautifully together”.
“Comedy and drama thrive on tension. Both thrive when they subvert expectations,” he wrote. “Both thrive on real emotions. And both are deeply subjective.”
Disney sent Deadpool & Wolverine up for consideration in various categories this awards season, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Reynolds, Best Supporting Actor for Jackman, and Best Adapted Screenplay (Reynolds co-wrote).
