In 2022, they divorced. On August 25, 2022, Ryuchell announced via Instagram that they no longer considered themselves the husband in their marriage to Peco. They said this status was a burden and declared that they preferred to be considered “life partners” and “parents” to Peko and their son. However, Ryuchell and Peco’s agency confirmed that they are divorcing. Initially, they denied the couple were separated.

In an interview with a Japanese magazine in September 2022, Ryuchell and Peco talked about their marriage and Ryuchell’s sexual orientation. Ruchel said,
By falling in love with a woman, I was able to imagine a life that was completely different from what I had imagined and taught me joys I didn’t know existed. Then I got married, had a son, and I started appearing on TV and getting everyone’s attention. At some point, I started to struggle with the discrepancy between what people imagined as the “ideal man,” the “ideal husband,” and the real me. When I got married, I decided to take the truth about my sexuality to my grave. I’m tired of it. I didn’t have a place where I could express myself while sending the message of living life on your own terms and valuing your own feelings. I couldn’t be my true self at home, where I was supposed to be most comfortable, and I thought I had to be the ideal husband, and it was really painful. But most of all, I hate myself for thinking it’s hard. I want to know why I can’t defeat my true self despite having such a happy self, and why I was born like this. ”
After her divorce, Ryuchell became an active supporter of the LGBT community and participated in various Japanese talk shows to promote LGBT rights in the country. They have also played a key role in organizing Tokyo Rainbow Pride events since 2018. In the final months before her death, Ryuchell began to express herself as a woman. Ryuchell has also shown support for transgender people by carrying transgender flags and making statements; however, they have never publicly declared their transgender identity.

On July 12, 2023, Ronchel’s agent found two people unconscious in the office of a talent agency in Sasazuka District, Shibuya, Tokyo. Ryuchell was pronounced dead some time later. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Agency, Ronchel committed suicide at the age of 27.
