SP Charan is a popular Indian dubbing singer, actor and producer. He works mainly in Tamil and Telugu films. He is the son of late Indian dubbing singer SP Balasubrahmanyam.

SP Charan was born on Friday, January 7, 1972 (48 years old in 2020) in Chennai. His star sign is Capricorn. He did his schooling at Asan Memorial CBSE School in Chennai. He joined Pace University in the United States to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration. Later, he completed a two-year course in Films and Television.

His father, the late SP Balasubrahmanyam, was a legendary Indian singer and actor. His mother’s name is Savithri Balasubrahmanyam. His sister Pallavi is an Indian dubbing singer. His grandfather SP Sambamurthy was a popular Harikatha artist. SP Charan’s grandmother’s name is Sakunthalamma.

Profession
In 1996, he started his career as a singer under the guidance of popular Indian composer Isaignani Ilaiyaraja. His debut as a singer was “Kurralla Rajyam” (1997). Some of his popular songs as a singer include “Love Paatalu” from “Daddy Daddy” (1998), “Bava Chandamamalu” from “Annayya” (2000), “Priyathama” from “Nuvvu Nenu” (2001), “Oka Thotalo Oka” from “Gangotri” (2003), “Kommalo” from “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story” (Dub) (2016).
In 2001, he made his debut as an actor in the Tamil television series Oonjal. He has acted in television series Annamalai (2002), Nenjathai Killaadhe (2014) and judge Super Singer Junior 6 (2018). He has acted in films in different languages including Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. In 2003, he made his debut in the Tamil film Unnai Charanadainthen. Some of the films he has acted in as an actor include Hudugigagi (2003), Saroja (2008), Vanavarayan Vallavarayan (2014) and Vizhithiru (2017). On 7 January 2002, he founded his own production company Capital Film Works. He has made some South Indian films like ‘Mazhai’ (2005), ‘Chennai 600028’ (2007), ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ (2011) and ‘Moone Moonu Varthai’ (2015).

In 2012, he was accused of sexual assault by Indian actress Sona Hayden. Later, Sona withdrew the accusation and said in an interview,
I got what I wanted from Officer Charan and therefore I am withdrawing my complaint. However, if Charan makes allegations against me in the future, I will do the same.”
Charan’s take on the whole issue is,
I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that she would withdraw the lawsuit. We had tried to explain to her from day one that such issues would ruin our friendship. But she wouldn’t listen, and my friend once again advised her not to cause any more trouble. Therefore, the case is closed!”

When I first met Rahman sir, he said, “You sound just like your father. You don’t have an accent.” I replied, “If I had had this opportunity before I went to America, I would have had an accent. Because I only listened to Michael Jackson and western music. But when I went there, I rediscovered legends like Ilaiyaraaja, Yesudas and SPB. I was deeply influenced by them…”
- SP Charan and his friends Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaren formed a music band ‘Next Generation’ in 1996. Later, Yugendran and Thaman also joined the band.

Later, SP Charan posted a live video on Facebook in which he said,
I don’t know why people would do this. How offensive and hurtful would it be to the people involved in this? It’s frustrating. He is not a fan of SPB because SPB (fans) don’t do things like this. He is not a person who hurts others. He is a forgiving person. I forgive this person.”
