S. Shankar was born on 17 August 1963 in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India (Age as of 2023: 60). He studied at the Central Institute of Technology, Chennai, India, pursuing a diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Shankar wanted to work in films since he was a child, and his talent was recognized by the famous screenwriter SA Chandrasekhar, who happened to see the play in a stage play produced by Shankar and his team. Although he wanted to be an actor, he chose to be a director instead.
