Troy Beckwith dead – Neighbours legend who played Michael Martin in Aussie soap dies aged 48

NEIGHBORS star Troy Beckwith, who played Michael Martin in the hit soap, has died aged 48, friends have said.

His co-star Kym Valentine confirmed the actor’s death in a tribute posted on social media.

She announced that there will be no funeral for the tragic Neighbors star, according to his last wishes.

Friends said he died on January 24 – but the cause of death has not yet been released.

Kym – who played Libby Kennedy – wrote: “It hurts so much to have to say this.

“Our dear old friend Troy Beckwith has passed away. Another member of our TV family [has] gone too soon.

She added: “Thanks for all the memories my cheeky friend and all my love to your friends and family.”

Beckwith played Martin on the hit soap from 1992 to 1998 – with a character billed as “Sicko Micko”.

He has been described as one of the great villains in Neighbors and one of the most legendary characters from the 90s.

The rest of the cast and crew of the leading Australian soap opera paid tribute to the actor.

He was remembered as a “cheeky and playful” man.

Brett Blewitt, who recently returned to the soap after more than 28 years to reprise his role as Brett Stark, wrote: “He was such a lovely person.

“Deeply thoughtful and empathetic. Cheeky and playful once out of his shell.

“Too soon. Love you buddy.”

Neighbors casting director Jan Russ posted: “Dear Troy… This is so sad. A beautiful boy.”

While Lucinda Cowden, who plays Melanie Pearson in the soap, posted a series of heartbroken emojis.

Troy’s friend Selina Laine Bonica wrote: “We lost a star and the heavens gained one.

“Troy, you were a nuisance to me, but I loved you very much. I’m glad you’re out of pain.”

Troy also played the main character in the children’s series Pugwall, playing the role of keyboardist Jeremy “Bazz” Bazlington.

Troy’s death comes almost seven years after he sparked fears for his safety following his disappearance in 2017.

The actor went missing in Melbourne leaving his partner and family fearing for his well-being.
