Saawan Kumar Tak (1936-2022) was an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and songwriter. He mainly works in the Hindi film industry and is best known for directing super hit films like Saajan Bina Suhagan, Souten, Souten Ki Beti, Sanam Bewafa and Bewaffa Se Waffa. He is credited with directing more than nineteen Bollywood films. He died of a heart attack on August 25, 2022, at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

Relationship with Meena Kumari
According to Sawan Kumar, he fell in love with veteran Indian actress Meena Kumari early in his career in the Bollywood film industry. He was in his early twenties at the time. In an interview with the media, he revealed that he personally experienced the tragedy of Meena Kumari’s last few days. He said,
Neither roses nor handsome men can erase her tragedy. “
In the same discussion, Sawan Kumar added that he has become attached to her. Once, he said, she took him to the bedroom and mimed telling stories about her life, and he laughed all night long. He said,
But I have grown attached to her. One night she took me to her bedroom. She has the image of a tragedy queen, but is actually an excellent impersonator. Listening to the story she told, I couldn’t help but laugh. Then she scattered the rose petals on the bed and went to sleep. I sat on the carpet and rested my head on the bed to sleep. When I came out of the room the next morning, Khurshid Appa asked me sarcastically: “Did you sleep well?”
Sawan Kumar went on to say that Meena Kumari had cirrhosis of the liver and he nursed her by catching the vomited blood with his hands, wiping her face dry and putting her to sleep. Meena Kumari also noticed all his love and care and once she told Sawan Kumar that he was like God to her. Meena Kumari said,
You were the first person I saw God with. You collect the blood I spat out in your hands. Not once did you show displeasure. No one has ever done anything like this for me. “
According to some media sources, Meena Kumari and her husband separated in 1960 and divorced in 1964 due to issues with some of the men in her life, including film producer Saawan Kumar Thakur. Saawan Kumar Tak is the founder of veteran Indian actors Sanjeev Kumar and Mehmood Junior (aka Naeem Sayyed) in the Indian film industry. Once, he saw Sanjeev Kumar acting in the theater and promised to cast him in his first film. In 1967, he directed his first film Naunihal, starring Sanjeev Kumar. In the same year, the film received several awards and honors from the Maharashtra government. Saawan Kumar gave the name Sanjeev Kumar to actor Harihar Jethalal Jariwala. Later, he released the film Gomti Ke Kinare in 1972, which started shooting in 1968. The film stars veteran actresses Meena Kumari and Mumtaz. Saawan Kumar Tak passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on August 25, 2022 at the age of 86 after a long illness. Soon after his death, his relative Mantu Singh announced in an interview with the media that Sawan Kumar Thacker suffered from a heart attack for two days. Mantu Singh said,
Sawange was 86 years old. He is not married. He had been having a heart attack for two days. He was later admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. He died of a heart attack at around 4pm today. “

- According to Saawan Kumar Tak, he moved to Mumbai from Jaipur, Rajasthan, in 1967 with the desire to become an actor in the Bollywood film industry. However, he was rejected by two or three film studios in Mumbai and was disappointed. This prompted him to move to the other side of the entertainment industry and decide to work as a producer. He then borrowed rupees from his sister. 25,000 to him so that he can make his own movie, but she refuses to lend him the money.
