Sabrina Carpenter Reveals She Cut Her Signature Bangs After 'First Real Heartbreak'

Sabrina Carpenter shares the origin story behind her signature beauty.

“I literally cut off my bangs ’cause somebody broke my heart and I was like, ‘I’ve got to do something,'” she told the newspaper in a video released Thursday, June 20. “I’m not usually one of those people who has to make rash decisions when their feelings are hurt, but that was my first real heartbreak and I guess it just fueled that initial like, ‘I’ve got to do something different.'”

While she was painting her self-portrait in a clip for vanity fairthe “Espressa” singer explained that when it comes to her post-breakup beauty transformation, she wasn’t interested in changing her natural hair color.

“I never wanted to dye my hair because I was always comfortable being, you know, blonde, the way I was born,” she said.

Carpenter, whose overly rosy cheeks and pouty lips have made her something of a beauty icon in recent months, also said her confidence level is always in flux. “I really think the beauty of being this age is that some days you can feel like you borderline really, so conceited and disgustingly self-confident,” she said. “And then all it takes is for someone to say one thing that just hits you and you’re like, ‘I’m actually the ugliest person who ever lived.’ And then it’s kind of a big flip-flop.”

Ultimately, though, the singer says she had “better things to worry about than the way I look.”

But that doesn’t stop fans from lusting after her glamorous look. The singer turned up the glam for her new music video for “Please Please Please” (featuring her boyfriend Barry Keoghan), wearing the perfect shade of lipstick. Carpenter later revealed that she was wearing Prada’s moisturizing lip balm in the shade Astral Pink, which she was seen applying at the beginning of the video. The lipstick appears powder blue in color but is formulated to adjust to the pH of an individual’s lips, resulting in a rosy pink shade.
