Safin Hasan is the youngest IPS officer in India. He was selected as an IPS officer at the age of 22. He is a 2018 batch IPS officer from Gujarat cadre.

Safin Hasan was born on Friday, July 21, 1995, in Palampur, Gujarat (age 24; as of 2019). His zodiac sign is Cancer. He was educated at S KM High School, Kanodar, Gujarat and Ascent Science College, Palampur, Gujarat. He pursued B.Tech. in Electronics and Communications from Sardarvallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, Gujarat.
When he was young, his family had financial difficulties. His parents used to do odd jobs in the village to make ends meet. Safin studied in a Gujarati school and did not start learning English until grade 11. Once, when he was in school, a collector came to visit his school. Safin was surprised to find that his principal and teachers treated him like a king. He returned home and asked his aunt why the collector was so respected. His aunt told him that Collector is an IAS officer, which is a very respectable position and anyone can become an IAS officer if they study hard. It was on that day that Safin decided to become an IAS officer.

Safin Hassan believes in Islam and comes from the Juraiya caste. His father, Mustafa Hassan, was a diamond factory worker and had been a part-time electrician in the village. His mother, Nasembanu, also worked in a diamond factory and worked as a cook in people’s homes, restaurants and banquet halls to finance Safin’s education. He has a younger brother, Asnan Hassan.

In 2017, Safin attempted the UPSC exam for the first time. On the way to the exam centre, he was involved in an accident and suffered injuries to his head, hands and legs. However, the accident did not break his spirits and he still attempted the exam. After the examination, he had to be admitted to the hospital; due to the serious injury, he suffered a grade three knee ligament injury and required surgery. His hard work paid off as his AIR reached 570.
His UPSC interview is scheduled for March 23, 2018. On February 20, 2018, he was admitted to a hospital in Gujarat with a urinary tract infection and a white blood cell (WBC) count above the upper limit. On March 1, 2018, he was discharged from hospital and flew back to New Delhi. However, he had to fly back to Gujarat two days later and was hospitalized because he had tonsil problems and his white blood cells reached 30,000. On March 15, 2018, he was discharged from hospital and returned to New Delhi. He participated in the interview on March 23, 2018, and he was the second highest scorer in the interview.
Hassan was selected as IPS officer after interview. Although Safin wanted to opt for IAS, he chose IPS; because he wanted to serve his country in any way possible. Once, he said in an interview——
I actually wanted to join IAS but I couldn’t clear the exam. Therefore, I have decided to pursue a career as an IPS officer and will utilize this opportunity to serve my country”
He underwent police training in 2018 and 2019 and was appointed as Assistant Inspector General of Police, Jamnagar, Gujarat on December 23, 2019.

- Safin enjoys social work and often spends his free time teaching children in slums. He also volunteers for many NGOs.
- Safin loves dogs and spends time with them whenever he can.
- His civil service training and examination expenses were borne by a couple named Mr. Husainbhai and Mrs. Jarinaben. Once, he said in an interview——
I’m not related to them by blood, but we have a human connection, and that’s the most important thing. They are the reason why I am able to study in Delhi”
- When he was appointed “India’s youngest IPS officer”, several news publications and radio programs interviewed him. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also called on him and paid his respects and congratulations to him.
