Sally Field and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are getting more candid about motherhood and marriage.
At the premiere of the film season Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus podcast, Field, 77, admitted, “I’ve never been good at choosing a partner for myself.”
The two-time Oscar winner, who was married to Steve Craig from 1968 to 1975 and Alan Greisman from 1984 to 1994, said the men in her life “just weren’t a good match”.

When Louis-Dreyfus, 63, asked her if she had “any interest in getting married again in her life,” Field laughed.
“I can’t imagine,” the Flying nun the star replied. “It would certainly all depend on meeting someone I would want to spend more than 37 seconds with.”
She added: “And I can’t imagine it either! So I don’t know.”

Field, who shares two older sons, Peter and Eli, with Craig, and youngest son Sam with Greisman, said some of her past relationships involved what Louis-Dreyfus called “red flags.”
“Several people I was dating, or around, would say, ‘Why can’t you treat me like your own sons?’ ‘Uh, because you’re not my son!'” recalled the 80 for Brady star.
“I’ve simply never been good at choosing a person, a partner to be with, who would love and know me, who wouldn’t want to change me and who would be a challenge for me,” she added.

Louis-Dreyfus, who has sons Henry and Charlie with husband Brad Hall, also asked Field if having children was “an opportunity to almost become a parent again.” The presenter added that parenthood “saved her life”.
“Of course, as time went on, I was my own mother,” Field said. “But I was so young. I was only 23 years old [becoming a mother].”
Of her eldest son Peter, she continued: “There was something in me that was so fierce about him that I felt, ‘If I can take care of him, I can take care of myself. And hell, I’ll take care of him. I don’t care if I fall.’ So it started to connect with a fierceness in me that I didn’t recognize.”

The start of the second season of Louis-Dreyfus’ hit podcast will premiere on Wednesday. Wiser than meA Lemonada Media Original, it airs “funny, heartwarming, personal conversations with iconic older women that are packed with the kind of sassy attitude and wisdom that only comes with age,” according to a press release.

As host, Louis-Dreyfus “sits at the feet of some extraordinary teachers this season,” it continues. This season of 11 parts Wiser than me Julie Andrews, Billie Jean King, Beverly Johnson, Ina Garten, Anne Lamott, Patti Smith, Bonnie Raitt, Gloria Steinem, Debbie Allen and Vera Wang will perform.
Emmy winner Veep star launched a podcast in 2023 with Jane Fonda in the debut episode. When guest Carol Burnett called her interviewer “one of the greatest comedic actresses of our time,” Louis-Dreyfus “practically fell over and passed out,” she recently said The Hollywood Reporter.
Louis-Dreyfus will be the next actress in the film Tuesdayand continues her role as Valentine Allegra de Fontaine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Episodes of the new season Wiser than me will be published on Wednesdays, starting March 27.
